The SGA Senate voted Wednesday night to reinstate Sen. Danielle Neely of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Neely originally submitted her resignation from the Senate on Nov. 7, citing personal reasons.

However, the letter also contained notice of her intention to return in the spring, and requested that she be considered for reinstatement at that time.

“I am glad to see Danielle’s reinstatement to her seat,” said Brian Davis, Campus Observations Chair. “She has shown her dedication to UTM’s minority students in the planning of February’s meet and greet event.”

The event will be held at 8 p.m. Jan. 28 in 206A and 206B in the University Center.

Liz Craig, Procedures Chair, is optimistic that the Civil Right’s Conference will be a success. “I believe that it has the makings of being a great conference and I hope the students take advantage of these events,” Craig said.

The conference will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at Watkins Auditorium in the University Center.

In other business:

Vice President Nikki Draper reported that the Skyhawk Card office is implementing a new system that would remove the need for Social Security numbers from the front of Student ID’s by next December.

This move is a continuation of legislation passed last term to prevent a student’s Social Security number being used as the primary form of identification.

Spring elections will be held electronically again, with ballot security provided by the Computer Center.

The High School Leadership Conference will be Feb. 20 - 22 and will be held in conjunction with PEP and the LEAD academy program.

Over 300 cans were collected for Santa’s Village, a volunteer event held each year in the McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.

The cans have been donated as part of an SGA community service project.

Sen. Matt Goddard was selected to write an article for The Pacer by the next senate meeting. The SGA will hold the next Senate meeting at 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in UC 111.

The SGA Executive Council left Thursday night for Las Vegas, Nev. for the Certified Student Leader Program.

The event replaces the Council of Student Government Associations conference, held at Texas A&M that the SGA Executive Council usually attends.

Some issues that are yet to be discussed by the SGA are one vacancy in the senate and an unfilled chairmanship.
