ZTA raises breast cancer awareness with its annual ‘Walk for the Cure’

The sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha are hosting their annual "Walk for a Cure" on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Every year, members of Zeta Tau Alpha across the nation raise money, in different ways, to donate to their philanthropy, Breast Cancer Research. Here, at the UTM, the “Walk for the Cure” is ZTA's most beneficial fundraiser.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. outside the Paul Meek Library with a breast cancer survivor sharing her story of the battle that she went through and how it affected her life. Then, the actual walk will begin and take participants around and through the beautiful UTM campus. Following the walk, a tree will be planted near the library in memory of all of the loved ones lost to breast cancer and in honor of those who have survived.

Olympus Hair Design Studio will be present to cut the hair of anyone who is willing to donate their locks to the Locks of Love Foundation. Locks of Love will take the hair that is donated and makes wigs for cancer patients. The hair must be untreated and at least six to ten inches long. Those who donate hair, that fits the criteria, will not only get a free haircut, but Olympus has also agreed to style their hair at no cost.

Door prizes will be given at the end of the event. The finale of the day will be the unveiling of the new hairstyles.

ZTA was recognized this summer at their international covention for being a major contributor to their fight against breast cancer.

Tickets for the "Walk for the Cure" are available from any sister of Zeta Tau Alpha or by calling Nicole at (731) 587-1309.

All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
