Zeta State Day

This past weekend, approximately 400 collegiate and alumnae members of the Zeta Tau Alpha National Sorority from all the chapters in Tennessee gathered together for the annual Zeta Day in the UC. Zeta Day is celebrated by all states nationwide for the Zeta Tau Alphas to celebrate the sisterhood and the foundation of their sorority.

The sisters of ZTA had a fun filled day with lots of planned events. Zeta Day activities included the following: a step show performed by the Martin chapter, skits, songs, flip flop decorating, a brief seminar on skin care, and a banquet. At the banquet Jamie Prince, a Communications major from Centerville, Tenn. and Nicole Bennington, a Communications major from Lewisburg, Tenn., both received Zeta Tau Alpha Scholastic Awards.

Each year ZTA supports a philanthropic project, and this year they chose We Care Ministries here in Martin. Each chapter gathered can goods, baby items, and school supplies to donate to We Care Ministries.

ZTAs came from all over Tennessee to celebrate this special sisterhood event. There are currently six chapters in the state, located in Knoxville, Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Memphis, Martin and Jackson.

The day was a big success for the sisters of ZTA. “The part I most enjoyed was meeting and reuniting with sisters from all over the state,” said Brittney Smith, a Senior Education major from Clarksville, Tenn. Zeta Day ended with an invitation to next year’s state day held in April 2005 in Nashville, Tenn.
