Zeta Phi Beta begins ‘Empowering Minds’

Read any good books lately?

Well, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had the pleasure of spending time at the Peppermint Stick Early Childhood Center reading stories to a lively group of 3 year-olds and 4-5 year-olds.

This volunteer time launched the beginning of a new service project adopted by the Delta Iota chapter of Zeta Phi Beta called Empowering Minds.

This is a project designed to encourage reading, emphasize the importance of education and prevent illiteracy among children of all ages.

The children at the center sat and listened attentively while the story was being read.

They also enjoyed having their faces painted and receiving candy from the members of Zeta.

Susan Winsten, the assistant director of the center, thought “it's a wonderful idea” for different organizations to spend time volunteering at the center.

The center provides day care services, as well as a pre-kindergarten program to prepare children for school. Be on the lookout for more Zeta events and community service projects.
