I normally like to start off my rants with something UTM related, but with the actions taking place in Major League Baseball this week…Sorry Skyhawks, let me rant for a few paragraphs.

I have a new enemy in life. The New York Yankees. Now, I never liked them, but they ranked right up there with the Vols and the Braves and the Duke Blue Devils (circa 1992, Christian Lattner). But congratulations, George Steinbrenner. You and your Yanks are now my most hated sports team. Have you learned nothing from the past three years? You cannot buy your rings! You have tried and you have failed.

Do you honestly think that getting A-rod will help? He is one of the best short stops in the game, I admit that. You’ve got a defensively mediocre Derek Jeter holding up that position, though, so what good will it do? But I guess since I don’t have nine ba-dillion dollars to waste on attempting to win a World Series, I’ll just root for a team that has more talent, not more money.

I am a Cardinals fan at heart, but this year, I think I’m gonna have to go with the Cubbies. Starting pitching rotation: Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, Carlos Zambrano and GREG MADDUX. I mean, I know it’s the Cubs, and one should never get their hopes up, but seriously. If they don’t have a shot this season, then I don’t know that they ever will.

This was not a good week for UTM sports, so I think I’ll just leave it alone for now. I’m too worked up about the Yankees to talk about anything else. Ask Joe. I threatened to beat him if he tackled the subject. And like a good boy, he left it alone.

So, when we go to print next week, I promise I’ll focus more on the Skyhawks.
