Who is toughest of the tough?


UTM's first annual Toughest of the Tough Strength Competition was held on April 16th. This event was sponsored by the UTM SHAPE Club.

Proceeds were donated to the Special Olympics. The competition consisted of a truck push, tire flip, leg press, farmer's carry, and bench press. For the men's competition, Kenny Smith won the bench press when he lifted a total of 405 pounds. Dean “Shawn” McLerran won first place in the leg press, lifting 1,350 pounds.

First place in the truck push went to Chad Robinson with a time of 12.21 seconds. Daniel McConnell took home first place in the tire flip with a time of 20.59 seconds. The second place overall men's Toughest of the Tough winner was Brandon Williams.

The overall Toughest of the Tough Male Champion was Kenny Smith. In the women's competition, Brooke Mathis took home first in the tire flip with a time of 23.87 seconds and also first in bench press, lifting 120 pounds.

Amy Castro took home first in the farmer's carry with 16.99 seconds, first in leg press with 545 pounds, and first in truck push with 19.76 seconds. The Overall Toughest of the Tough Female Champion was awarded to Amy Castro. Thank you to all of the participants and supporters who made this a very successful event.
