Wheelchair baskebtall game to raise money

The Jackson Generals, two-time national champion wheelchair basketball team, will face the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Public Safety staff as well as other campus representatives in a benefit game, at 7 p.m., Nov. 6, at Skyhawk Fieldhouse on the UT Martin campus.

The show is free and open to the public, however, donations will be accepted for the Generals' travel expenses.

"They beat us handily two years ago," said Lt. Ray Coleman of the department of public safety, "but we have some surprises for them this year." The department of public safety is sponsoring the event, but will be joined on the court by others from campus.

Don DeVaul, of Westport, Tenn., UT Martin student and residence hall adviser, is a member of the Jackson Generals.

The team, which is a member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, has won two Division 3 championships in the last three years.

There will be competition off the court as the UT Martin residence halls that post the best attendance at the event will claim prizes. The Residence Hall Association also is assisting with publicity and concessions for the event.
