What’s at the bookstore?

UTM bookstore shelves faculty authors’ work, helps seniors get prepared for graduation

Did you know that the campus bookstore carries books by faculty authors?

The bookstore, located on the second floor of the Boling University Center offers a selection of books by professors who teach right here at UTM. Faculty authors include: James Feiser and John Powers, Harold Watson, Larry Ingram, Roy Neil Graves, Victor Depta, Richard L. Saunders and Marvin L. Downing, David Coffey, Frank Louis Mauldin, Daniel J. McDonough and Jim Byford.

Several of these professors and faculty have more than one book on the shelves of the bookstore. Sam Covington, the bookstore manager, urges faculty that have published work to notify the bookstore so that they may put a copy or two of their work on the shelves.

Also, the bookstore staff wants to remind students that if they have required books that they will need later in the semester, but have not bought yet, they need to notify the bookstore so that they can keep them on the shelves. “This is the time in the semester that we need to clear our shelves of over-stocked inventory, so that we can get ready for next semester,” says Covington.

Many students have several required texts for one course and like to buy them on a need-basis.

“We don’t mind holding the books for the students that will need them, but we don’t know what they need unless they notify us,” Covington explains.

Several professors have sent notices to the bookstore of books their students will need later, but still many have not.

Please let either your professor or the bookstore know if any of this applies to you. The bookstore has already begun returning overstocked books, but it is not too late. Just make sure to let them know before you leave for spring break. If you forget and find that you need a book a couple of weeks from now, the bookstore staff can order what you need for you, but it could take five to eight days before they arrive on campus.

Also, a quick note to seniors: Many of you are not sure what to do about graduation. If you have some questions about graduation announcements, caps, gowns and etc, you can get all of your graduation materials through the bookstore or visit www.artcarved.com on the web.

To order by phone, call 1-(800) 278-7644. You can pick up a flyer at the bookstore or attend the “Grad Fair” March 18-20 at the bookstore.

There will be a representative from Art Carved there to answer any questions you might have and take orders for the things you will need. They will offer rings, diploma frames, invitations, caps, gowns and other materials to suit your needs.

Seniors, don’t forget to check your campus mail box at the campus post office also in the UC. They send all kinds of mail pertaining to graduation there. And check your squirrel mail for updates on the bookstore and graduation.
