Volleyball team continues to roll

Published (Volume 75, No. 8)

The UTM Skyhawk Volleyball Team continues to roll over all who oppose them in their quest to repeat as OVC champions, beating APSU and Tennessee Tech 3-0.

The team traveled to Austin Peay State University in their quest to stay undefeated in the OVC.

The Skyhawks came out on fire and outscored the Lady Governors 2-1 to take the game by a final score of 30-15.

In game two, UTM came out strong again, pummeling APSU with shot after shot until they took the game 30-19.

The Skyhawks have had a problem this season about taking the first two games and dropping the third. The Lady Govs revamped their offensive strategy during the break, but it was all for naught.

The Skyhawks battled off a resurgent APSU team in game three by the score of 31-29, and took the match in three straight games.

The ’hawks were led offensively by Heather Kea with 15 kills and two service aces, and Rachel Ahlers with 11 kills. The UTM defensive effort was led by Stefanie Dubach, who had 18 digs.

The Skyhawks then travelled to Cookeville to take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.

The Skyhawks seemed to pick up right where they left off with Austin Peay.

In game one, the ’hawks scored point after point and took the game by a final score of 30-20.

UTM then headed off a Tech comeback in game two and took the game by a final score of 30-26.

The Skyhawks went into the break with a sweep on their minds, and that’s exactly what they did.

UTM fought off a Tech charge in game three to win the game by a final score of 30-28.

The Skyhawks were led offensively by Ahlers with 12 kills. Dubach led the defensive effort with 14 digs.

The Skyhawks now move to 12-4 on the season and 7-0 in the OVC. The team next faces Tennessee State tonight at Skyhawk field house.
