Vanderbilt shuts out Skyhawks


The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s tennis team opened its spring season against host Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon and found out why the Commodores are ranked No. 29 in the nation.

Vanderbilt posted a 7-0 dual match victory. Vandy’s No. 1 Zach Dailey defeated Marten Tamla 6-4, 6-4, while Vandy’s Scott Brown held off Adolfo Anzola 6-1, 6-1.

The Commodores also won the doubles point as the team of Brown and Dailey defeated Tamla and Anzola 8-3.

Tennessee-Martin’s Lucas Tregansin and Daniel McGuire suffered an 8-4 setback against Vandy’s Lewis Smith and Greg Sossamar.

The Skyhawk tennis team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Knoxville to face the University of Tennessee.
