UTM whips MSU

The UTM Skyhawks soared over the Murray State Racers 3-0 at Racer Arena Tuesday.

The team posted a 2-0 OVC record going into the contest. If MSU had any delusions that they would beat the ’hawks, they were quickly shattered.

The Skyhawks battled back from a small defecit to take game one by the score of 32-30.

In game two, UTM would not let the MSU ponies get that close to a win again. The Skyhawks slammed their way to an 11 point lead.

The team never looked back and put away the Racers in game two, 30-27.

MSU Coach Dave Schwepker took his troops into the lockeroom during the intermission and tried to rally them to a win. Unfortunately, UTM Coach Chris Rushing was designing a gameplan himself.

The Racers came out and took an early lead and held it throughout the game. But the Skyhawks just couldn’t be grounded.

The ’hawks, led by Senior Natalie Klevan, bounced back and took the game by a final score of 31-29.

With this victory, the Skyhawks have now won 15 consecutive regular season OVC games. It extended UTM’s winning streak to four, and kept them firmly in the number one spot in the OVC.

UTM is now 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the OVC. Murray State falls to 1-8 on the year and 0-3 in the OVC.

The team was led offensively by Senior Lindsey Stock with 11 kills, Senior Rachel Ahlers with 12 kills and Senior Natalie Klevan with 16 kills.

The Skyhawks have one important OVC game tonight as they host Southest Missouri, and then turn to host Eastern Illinois tomorrow night.
