UTM soccer team signs on new defender

UTM head soccer coach Nathan Pifer has signed Ashley Cedars, a defender from Young Harris Junior College, to a scholarship. Cedars, originally from Monroe, Ga., helped Young Harris College finish fourth in the nation at the 2002 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament.

"Ashley is a tall, fast tenacious defender," Pifer said. "Her experience at Young Harris will be an asset for UTM soccer. She will fit right in to our team needs. I look forward to having her play this fall."

Cedars joins Jennifer Ermey, Kindal Keim, Jamie Ohleiser, Annie Cook and Angela Fiddler as UT Martin soccer signees for the 2003 season.

The Skyhawks finished their 2002 season with a 9-7-3 overall record and a 3-3-1 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. The team finished third in the conference standings and was one of the most improved teams in the nation.
