UTM Soccer team falls to SEMO


UTM dropped its last conference game of the season Sunday, 3-0, to Southeast Missouri. The Skyhawks are now 9-4-3, 3-2-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while the top-ranked Otahkians improve to 12-4-1, 5-0 in the OVC. The win guarantees that Southeast Missouri will host the OVC Tournament, Nov. 8-10.

The Otahkians conclude their season Wednesday with a conference match at Murray State.

UTM held its own in the first half against Southeast Missouri, keeping the game scoreless.

The Otahkians came out strong in the second half, with Valerie Henderson scoring the first goal of the match at 51:20 on a pass from Erin Slattery. Southeast Missouri went on to score two more goals in the next 10 minutes. UT Martin was out shot 28-7 in the match.

Henderson got her second goal of the match at 52:27, assisted by Lisa Schweppe. The teammates switched things up at 61:12 with Schweppe scoring off a pass from Henderson.

Caryn Scheufler spent the majority of the game in the goal for the Skyhawks, playing over 61 minutes with five saves, allowing three goals.

Freshman Megan Dempsey finished the game for UT Martin, picking up two saves. Amanda Wrzos and Lauren Fabbro split time in the goal for Southeast Missouri. Fabbro had two saves for the Otahkians.

The Skyhawks wrap up their season this weekend with in-state rival Tennessee Chattanooga on Friday, then return home to close the season against Southeastern Conference member Alabama, Sunday at Skyhawk Field.
