UTM presents ‘The Imaginary Invalid’

A hypochondriac attempts to marry his daughter, who is in love with someone else, to a doctor to feed his obsession with illness, while his wife and lawyer try to get at his money.

Vanguard Theatre and UTM’s department of Theatre and Visual Arts present Moliere's French 17th century production The Imaginary Invalid Feb. 27-28 and March 1-2 in the Harriet Fulton Theatre.

Assistant Professor of Visual and Theater Arts, Ken Zimmerman, is directing the twisting and turning events of the production.

The hypochondriac, portrayed by junior Ryan Leyhue (Mayfield, Ky.) plans a marriage for his eldest daughter, while his maid intervenes with schemes and tricks to prevent it al all costs.

The daughter takes sides with the maid and plans to marry the man she loves and not the doctor.

The wife and lawyer-lover plan to get all of the hypochondriac’s money by sending his daughters to a convent and to leave everything to the wife.

Will the hypochondriac get his wish and get all the prescriptions and medications he could ever imagine? Will the daughter marry the man of her dreams and live happily ever after? Will the wife and lawyer-lover get all the money?

A cast of 21 members will answer all these questions.
