UTM GBPhi visits Music City

Gamma Beta Phi, one of the most prestigious organizations at the university, recently attended the 40th Anniversary of the Gamma Beta Phi National Convention held in Nashville, TN. The group met up with other students from across the nation at the Sheraton Music City Hotel on the 13th and 14th of February to expand their possibilities after college.

While at the convention the students were able to gain information regarding other chapter’s performance, share individual experiences about their involvement in the chapter, and participate in workshops that would ultimately increase their knowledge about the organization as well as enhance their capabilities to run a successful chapter.
The advisor, Dan Tracy, is new to the UTM chapter. Therefore, he was recognized at the convention for his dedication to the group and outstanding leadership capability. Those present to witness such an honorary mention were President-Kim Harrington, Vice President- Melissa Bond, Secretary- Denise Harrell, Public Relations Chair- Eric Carter, Webmaster-Kevin Elliot, Historian- Christy Debusk, and general members- Ali Smith and Brent Ray. The UTM chapter of Gamma Beta Phi was chartered in 2001 and originated from the high school Beta club. It is an honor and service organization for any college student who falls academically amongst the top 10 percent of his or her class.
The only way to become a member of this prominent organization is by invitation, so to receive an invite should be an honor for any student. The membership drive for this year will begin in late March. All students should check their mailboxes in the next few weeks in order to find out if they are eligible to join. The chapter is currently involved in the sponsorship of a sports equipment drive for the Carl Perkins Center. All students and faculty are encouraged to participate in order to have a successful charity drive. Those interested in donating their extra sports equipment can find donation boxes in the following buildings: Business Administration, McCord Hall, and Browning Hall.
