UTM Alpha Tau Omega chapter turns 40

Alpha Tau Omega is preparing for the chapter’s 40th Anniversary Celebration this weekend, with the national president delivering the keynote speech.

ATO has currently received over 250 RSVP’s and expects 400 to 500 alumni to be in Martin over the course of the weekend.

An awards banquet will be held Saturday evening in the UC Ballroom with Dr. Miles McCall, ATO National President, speaking on behalf of the celebration. Dr. McCall will be the first national Greek president to visit UTM. “We are anticipating an outstanding weekend to commemorate the legacy of ATO at UTM,” said Matt Regan, chapter president.

Other highlights of the celebration will include the formal dedication of the Col. Tom Elam Memorial Garden, on Sunday, with Mrs. Kathleen Elam in attendance.

The festivities will begin Thursday evening with a reception at the ATO house for local and university officials. On Friday, a dinner will be held in the UC Ballroom for the Founding Fathers, class of 1964.

“If any organization – other than the university – could pull off an event of this magnitude, it’s ATO. We have been planning this event for two years and are expecting an unforgettable experience,” said Chris Crockett, ATO adviser.

Founded at UTM in 1964, ATO has over 1,000 initiates. The chapter’s annual philanthropy, The Push for Saint Jude, has raised nearly $400,000 for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital over the course of its nineteen-year tenure.
