Tune into WUTM The Hawk

Hopefully, at some point in your college career, you will dial in to WUTM 90.3 The Hawk, UTM’s very own radio station.

“It plays the best music in the area, consisting of top 200 during the day and R & B and hip-hop at night,” said Meredith Ramsey, a senior Communications major.

WUTM does more than play music, it also hosts major sports events during the week such as basketball, baseball and softball games. There are also a variety of specialty shows.

Beyond providing a radio voice for the campus, WUTM also serves as an outlet for broadcast majors and other students to get a feel for real radio work.

WUTM is different from other stations in that it is a noncommercial, student-operated and programed radio station.

Faculty adviser Richard Robinson calls it, “an on-air laboratory.”

Since 1998 WUTM has been on a digital playback system, which in laymen’s terms, means that songs can be chosen in advance and run automatically from a computer hard drive.

WUTM plans to advance more this summer with computer equipment which will allow them to easily download, play and manipulate Mp3 files and standard wav. files.

There seems to be something for everybody between campus events, technology, and of course, music with WUTM.

“I listen to WUTM when i get bored of my CDs,” said senior Communications major Natalie Simmons.
