Treat other Greeks as you want to be treated

I am writing to voice my opinion on several observations I made at this past weekend’s Greek Week Step Show.
First, let me compliment the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order on their classy, tasteful show. Judging from the response of the ladies in attendance, your performance seemed well received, even though you chose not to engage in the nauseating, floor-humping activities of certain other groups performing that night. For those who did lower yourselves (no pun intended) to get your freak on with the steppin’ stage, let me say two things.
1.) I hope it was comfortable, because it sure didn’t look like it was; and, more importantly, 2.) I hope your mothers are proud of the respectful young men they have raised (please don’t miss the sarcasm in this last statement).
Moreover, I was embarrassed to be associated with the Greek community on Saturday night when a great many individuals who dare to call themselves Greek LADIES and GENTLEMEN laughed and scoffed during the performance of the new independent sorority, Gamma Kappa Pi.
The last time I checked, all the Greek organizations on campus claimed to be rooted in their own respective set of IDEALS and VIRTUES and the actions of the past weekend constitute yet another example in a long line of events which would betray even the loosest interpretation of any of those ideals or virtues.
I don’t think I am alone in my condemnation of the hypocrisy inherent in our Greek system. Judging from the extremely low numbers of young men registered for Spring Rush this week (many of whom probably are re-pledges), the new students coming to our campus aren’t interested in belonging to organizations who piss on the very values they are charged with upholding.
If my comments strike any Greek individuals as puritanical, irrational or unfounded, I urge you to dust off your ritual books and see what they have to say about the immorality which abounds in Greek events such as the recent step show.
Again, let me congratulate those who performed or otherwise conducted themselves as true Greek ladies and gentlemen this past weekend. Hopefully actions like yours will become not the exception but the rule within our Greek community.
