Travel-study to Washington D.C. to be offered in May

This May from Sunday, May 11 to Saturday May 17, the Department of Marketing, Management and Political Science will be sponsoring a travel study class to Washington D.C. Credit for the class will be given either in the summer of fall 2003, depending on the student's graduation plans.

Anyone who will be a full-time student will pay no extra fee for the course if taken as part of a regular session load. (Normally the course can be added on to an 18-hour load with permission of a college dean.)

Those who are part-time may have to pay extra for the course, like any other one. The cost of the travel is $600 per person.

This amount will cover shared lodging, transportation and admissions.

The student will be responsible for meals, DC metro rides and incidentals. Students should figure about $20 a day at least for meals.

Some days will be less, some may possibly be more. We will eat mainly at fast food places.

The course will carry three hours credit in political science upper division, which can be used to satisfy a major or minor or upper division elective.

Anyone interested in participating in the travel study class should contact Dr. Richard Chesteen at room 213 in the Business Building or email at rchestee@utm.edu.

He can be reached by phone at 587-7473.

Students can also contact Lt. Darrell Simmons from Safety and Security at 587-7784 or email at dsimmons@utm.edu.

Credit for the course will be awarded with the fall semester. Grades will be based on site participation, some on-campus activities and a final exam sometime in the early fall after school begins.

There are only a limited number of seats available and they will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a $100 deposit due by April 18 and the balance will be due by May 2.
