Track team competes at Arkansas State


UT Martin head track coach Jason McKinney said his Skyhawk teams had a decent indoor track meet this past weekend at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Along with decent, it was progress and it was filled with more personal records for the Skyhawks.

Shalaine Phaup finished third overall in the 5K with her time of 19:29, while Candice Lampkin set an indoor personal record with her 12th-place finish in the 400. Lampkin’s time was 1:01.97.

Sherese Smith turned in the fastest Skyhawk time in the 55m dash at 7.81, while Candace Baker was the fastest Skyhawk in 200m dash at 28.20.

In the one-mile run, Angelina Gracian turned in a time of 5:39.37, while Michelle McCormack turned in a 5:52.91. Phaup finished the 3000m run in 10:57.3, while Megan Vonderheide was clocked at 12:52.1.

Vonderheide and Cathy Bennett also ran the 5000m run and turned in respective times of 23:23.11 and 23:23.12. The distance medley relay team of McCormack, Candice Lampkin, Angelina Gracian and Phaup finished at 13:21.94. The 1600 relay team of Gracian, Lampkin, Latoshua Johns and Jeanette Halfacre was clocked at 4:12.15.

In the field events, Tennessee-Martin newcomer Katie Mirgliotta threw the shot put 10.95m; Christy Tracy recorded a throw of 10.31m; and Courtney Smith’s throw measured 9.18m. Mirgliotta also competed in the 20-pound weight throw. She had a throw of 12.46m.

The Skyhawk indoor track teams return to action Saturday when they compete in the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
