Toga Party makes UTM history

This week the SGA campaigning frenzy began and many students may have been puzzled by the storm of fliers and posters displaying a single word-TOGA.

Toga is not a recreational event, nor is it a call to chaos; it is a political party formed by several candidates who represent four of the colleges on campus: the College of Business and Public Affairs, Humanities and Fine Arts, Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Education and Behavioral Sciences.

As the first political party to make an appearance on campus, the mission of the Toga party is to foster an environment of diversity while promoting a superior level of cooperation between the senators and their constituents.

The members of the Toga party are Elizabeth Reynolds, Dusty Dean, Joey Pierce, Ann-Marie Lovelace, Marqueta Abraham, and Jacob Crouch with Senator Liz Craig serving as chair of the party.

All members of Toga are dedicated to promoting change and progress on campus.

While each member is actively pursuing a seat in the student senate with a personal campaign, they are also fiercely supporting the campus wide release of Toga. This is but a tiny example of the amount of dedication that each member has devoted to this idea. The members of Toga are confident the idea of a student based political party will rekindle the enthusiasm that has surrounded SGA elections in the past.

The Toga party plans on making a difference on campus and students here at UTM should observe the effect that just seven people can make on this campus and should be encouraged to get involved because you can be seen and heard. Your vote counts.
