Cupid may have struck that love bow and arrow into your heart, but on Valentine’s Day, you may feel the pain in your wallet.
February 14 is a day to try to show someone how you feel by giving him or her all of your love and affection, although a nice gift would not hurt.
Giving a good gift or going on a romantic date should not mean that you have to eat Ramen noodles for months afterwards.
Here are a few date ideas that are light on finance, but heavy on romance: • rent a movie and snuggle together while you watch it • go on an indoor picnic just for two • look at the stars together • share ice cream as you take a walk to your favorite place • have a candlelit dinner • go on a romantic scavenger hunt for your mate to find his or her favorite things • stay in and dance to your favorite songs
Some gift ideas from walmart.com include a rose bouquets starting at $34.97, cologne or perfume starting at $18 or stuffed animals starting at $10.
UTM students also have some cheap, but loving ideas for what to get for your someone special.
“Chocolate because it says ‘I love you,’” said Amber Thorton, a freshman from Dyer.
“Make something! A gift from the heart is the best gift of all,” said Jodie Davidson, a freshman from Medina.
“Make a little romantic coupon book, like coupons for free massages,” said Heather Shockley, a sophomore from Spencer.
“Give a card with something sweet written on the inside of it,” said Lindsey Flowers, a freshman from Rutherford.
Don’t forget that money can’t buy you love, and if you aren’t careful, it can cause you a whole lot of heartache.
Love is not about what you can give, but what you can share together. A relationship is only what you make of it and put into it, and this is something you can’t put a price on.
Maybe some of these gift ideas will help you and your special someone celebrate Valentine’s better than before. If you don’t have someone to share the day with, I wish you the best of luck in finding love for this Valentine’s Day and many more.
