Think twice, but speak once

First of all I would like to welcome you, Drew Jeffers, to the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Now that I have greeted you, where do you get off trying to criticize what someone else thinks. Didn’t you talk about being considered as Americans?

Question: What is the first amendment of the Constitution? You aren’t in the same situation she’s in.

As for trying to show everyone how smart you are by asking the question “Is Barber Shop an African-American movie?”

Your answer is “KNOW YOUR ROLE.”

Look, freshman, the Cine is not on campus. The university does not own it. So that means, say it with me: “That’s not an African-American movie on campus.”

Before you take offense to this, don’t consider this as retaliation, think of it as a learning experience.

Before you speak from now on, I would like you for to think twice and speak once. You see Drew, if you would have thought about some of the things you said before you wrote it, you would have known that Ebony, Jet, and Essence aren’t racially motivated. By you not thinking, you made a complete ass of yourself.

I agree with what you said about the Wal-Mart situation. If someone doesn’t want to speak to you, that’s their prerogative.

As a young adult, you shouldn’t care if the next person speaks to you or not.

Back to the movie thing. We don’t think that they’re being racist about the particular movies they show; we would just like a larger variety.

Once again, think twice, speak once.

How can she be considered a racist and there are people of our same ethnic descent whom are members of SAC? “Know Your Role” freshman.

Now, I have to ask you, do you know the assuming rule?

As you said in last week’s issue about the magazines, this in fact is a “humdinger.”

No, there isn’t a law that says they have to sell those particular magazines, but what is wrong with wanting to see a magazine where there is something positive written by and about people of our equivalent race?

Also, for your information, I would like you to further know that there are people on Jet magazine staff that are indeed Caucasian.

Just in case you want to call me a racist, hit Chris Ward up and see how racist I am.

These are not problems Mr. Jeffers; just issues people would like to be heard.

Like I said before, think twice and speak once. Now marinate on that…
