'Taking Lives' takes no risks

In "Taking Lives," Angelina Jolie plays a top FBI profiler, Illeana Scott, who is summoned to help out Canadian law enforcement in Montreal.

Her unusual crime-solving tactics leave her feeling out of place with the local police team. Hunting down different suspects of a serial killer leads Scott through a variety of twists that become very personal.

Scott begins to profile suspects played by Kiefer Sutherland and becomes close to an eyewitness, John Costa, played by Ethan Hawke.

Scott has a vivid passion for her work and is very professional. Throughout the movie, she is confident in her the process the case is taking, but realizes her judgment is becoming clouded. The pressure builds to catch the elusive killer before he can take another life.

The movie takes remarkable twists and leaves the viewer guessing from scene to scene.

D.J. Caruso directs the movie that is based on a novel by Michael Pye. Caruso does an excellent job with the actors.

However, the scenes are scary and surprising but still generic. There are scenes that will make you jump in your sit, but they are not that original.

The plot is very in-depth but not hard to follow. This film will definitely have you playing detective as the story plays out.

Jolie delivers her best performance since she won her Oscar.

Sutherland is outstanding as usual and makes your hair crawl.

Hawke lacks a convincing performance; perhaps it is his character’s nature.

Together the cast comes together for a movie that is worth watching.
