Super Bowl, important day for football fanatics, also advertising industries, fans

Super Bowl marks one of the biggest events of the year to football fans, but the “big game” also marks one of the biggest days for advertisers with premiers of new commercials aimed to catch the biggest television crowd during the year.

Overall, it was an upsetting night for Oakland Raiders fans, but also a disappointing night for television viewers as they watched some mediocre commercials between the breaks in the game.

This year’s Super Bowl commercials played on parodies of movies, actors and even the football referees.

A memorable commercial that pops into mind is the FedEx commercial playing a parody off of the movie Cast Away. Just like in the movie, the “cast away” returns home after five years and personally delivers a few of the packages that he has kept to their respective homes. In this particular commercial, the cast away delivers a package to a lady and questions her about the contents of the package. Ironically, the package contained a satellite phone, a GPS locator, a fishing rod, a water purifier and a package of seeds. The message was clear to audiences though: no matter what, FedEx always delivers.

Another parody commercial belonged to Budweiser. The first commercial that played during the game depicted a zebra replaying a close-up of some charging Clydesdale hooves.

While the zebra watches the reply over and over, the horses are all standing around waiting. It’s been done before, but the image will always remain humorous. Can refs ever make a decent call?

Bud Light featured a few commercials this year. Some were great, while some didn’t meet the standards of a Super Bowl commercial. One featured a guy in an upside down clown costume. He orders a beer and drinks it through his “bottom.”

He then proceeds to order a hot dog. Needless to say, the commercial was somewhat interesting.

Another cute and interesting Bud Light commercial features a man walking his dog. He stops at a bar and wants to go in, but there’s a sign that clearly says “no pets.” He gets an idea to put his longhaired dog on his head as a wig and goes in.

The best commercial of all during the Super Bowl (in the opinion of the Features Editor) was that of Bud Light and their strong man contest. The commercial is set at a strong man contest with a big muscular guy about to lift a refrigerator full of Bud Light (weighing in at about 1,000 pounds).

While the hosts of the show are talking, a fan runs down and lifts the refrigerator and starts to walk off with it. Next, a smaller man knocks the fan out of the way and starts carrying it off. Finally, we see an old man knocking the smaller man out of the way and he drags it out of the room.

The Hulk and The Matrix Reloaded were also previewed during the big game as well as PSA’s for marijuana and smoking.
