Students sign, sing at talent show

The Freshman Council talent show was full of various talents including singing, clogging, signing, playing the guitar and even a poetry reading.

The one talent that was rare yet very entertaining was one contestant’s talent of clogging. Ann Marie Lovelace clogged to a remix of Justin Timberlake’s Rock Your Body. The audience was singing and clapping along to the music. This seemed to be a real crowd favorite.

Lauren Brannon, a junior Marketing major, took home the first place prize of $100 and a certificate. Her talent was singing the song Am I Blue.

Nicole White, a freshman from Union City, won second place by signing Now Behold a Lamb. She received $75 and a certificate. Nicole captured the audience as she dramatically depicted the song through sign language. She also received a standing ovation.

Tiffani Damesworth, a freshman Public Relations major from Gleason, won third place. She received $50 and a certificate. Tiffani’s talent was singing the Always be My Home.

The judges for the evening were Luther Mercer, Reba Wade and Jimmy Hubbard.

The Masters of Ceremonies for the evening were Freshmen Council members, Tracey Baker and Rachel Albritton.

“This was a very diverse experience. More people should get involved in things like this. Look at the signs and flyers up on campus and, if you are interested, go for it,” said Mary Lewis, a freshman education major from Jackson.

James Orr, the president of Freshmen Council was excited about how well things went at the show.

“I am very proud of the turnout. The Freshman Council worked very hard to make this happen,” said Orr.

Freshmen Council is part of the Student Government Association (SGA).

Freshmen Council members are the representatives of the freshman class in SGA.

The Freshman Council meetings are at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and SGA meetings are at 9 p.m. on Thursdays.

They are both open to the public, and the members encourage all UTM students to attend and let their voices and opinions be heard.
