Students get safety tips to prevent vehicular break-ins at UTM

Recently, several vehicles have been reported broken into around campus.

CD players, speakers and CD cases have been taken from the vehicles. The Department of Public Safety asks that you take the following prevention steps to protect your property:

¨If you have a removable faceplate, take it with you or secure it away from your stereo

¨Put expensive items out of sight, take them with you or lock them in your trunk.

¨The most important preventive measure is to lock your doors and secure your windows when you leave your vehicle unattended.

Lt. Ray Coleman, office of public safety, said “Recording the serial number of your property or engraving a number familiar to you on all your equipment could help recover the items quicker, and could help them return items recovered to lawful owners in a shorter period.”

“If you hear or observe anything suspicious, please notify our office immediately,” said Coleman, “Crime prevention is everyone's responsibility and working together we can make a difference.”
