Student wants real dorm, not life size model

If you build it, will they live there? Sure they will, but who wants to live on the second floor of the University Center? If you’re not aware of what I am referring to, then perhaps you haven’t gone to the UC lately.

One can’t miss the monstrosity being built between the student employment office and Duncan Ballroom.

I am probably one of the last students who would complain about anything on our campus, and I have always spoken highly of new ideas and projects that UTM has come up with. I just don’t understand the need for a “life-size” model of the new dorms to be built inside the UC and not to mention the extra expense of something like that.

Don’t get me wrong; I think that it is great that UTM is updating our dorms, and the new dorms will add to our campus rather than take away from it. I believe that the new dorms will persuade incoming freshmen to choose UTM. My only question is why don’t we start tearing down Austin Peay Hall now instead of building something that no one will benefit from? If we need a model, isn’t it much cheaper to build a miniature?

Some people might need to view the “life-size” model to receive the full effect, but those of us who can use their imaginations just don’t see the need for it.
