Softball has full week


The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team falls to 15-20 on the season with doubleheader losses to Saint Louis University Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. The Skyhawks lost the first game 4-1 before falling in the second game 2-0.

Runyan and Brandy Whalen each had hits in the game. Saint Louis scored one run in each the first and sixth innings for the 2-0 win.

The UTM softball team dropped a couple of non-conference games Tuesday against Southern Illinois, 4-1 and 8-0. The Skyhawks are now 15-18 on the season as they travel to Saint Louis for a 4 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow. Angela Baize scored the Skyhawks only run while pinch running for Sarah Daws in the third inning.

Senior Kendra Kosco pitched the entire game for the Skyhawks. The Skyhawks could not get anything going in game two as they were only able to get three hits. The Salukis put eight hits on the board, coupled with eight runs for the 8-0 win in five innings.

Freshman Kelly Swafford pitched the loss for UTM. She had three strikeouts, three walks and gave up eight hits.
The UTM softball team cranked out 18 hits over Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois, including a three-run home run by senior Meredith Ramsey in the second game, for the doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon.

The Skyhawks fought off a seventh-inning scare in game one to pull out the 3-2 win. UTM dominated all the way in game two for the 8-0 shutout in six innings. UTM sealed the win in the sixth inning as Davis swung on and hit what was meant to be an intentional ball and scored Whalen for the 8-0 win.

Ramsey and Davis both went three-for-four in the game, each with three RBI. Ramsey also scored two runs while Davis picked up two doubles. Whalen was two-for four, scoring three runs. Senior Kendra Kosco picks up the win for the Skyhawks. She struck out five batters in six innings and gave up five hits.

Ashley Condon and Kari Hagerty split pitching duties for the Panthers. The Skyhawks return to action this weekend with a three-game Ohio valley Conference series at Morehead State.

Action begins at 12 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader and 12 p.m. Sunday with a single game.
