Soccer team takes third straight

Myrick scores twice; Renier credited with three assists

The University of Tennessee at Martin won its third consecutive soccer match Wednesday night at the Whitten Soccer Complex in Nashville when it downed Belmont University 4-1.

The Skyhawks are 9-2-2 on the season and they have won four of their last five matches. The Skyhawks return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Murray State to play the Lady Racers in an Ohio Valley Conference match.

Senior Sherrie Weeks ignited the Skyhawks attack against Belmont when she gathered a rebound off Belmont goalie Ali Young to give the Skyhawks the lead just 2:49 into the match.

With 2:25 left in the first half, Dani Myrick cleaned up a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar to push the Skyhawks’ lead to 2-0 at the break.

Myrick added her second goal of the night after just seven minutes of play in the second half. UT Martin’s final score would come three minutes later as Katie Jackson spotted the Skyhawks a four-goal advantage. Belmont finally put one on the board in the 85th minute as freshman Anna Dinwiddie was in position to fire a rebound off the UT Martin goalkeeper.

Myrick scored twice to give her 15 goals on the season while senior Tavi Renier assisted on three of the Skyhawks’ four goals.

Belmont goalkeeper Ali Young made seven saves, while Caryn Scheufler and Megan Dempsey combined for six saves for the Skyhawks.
