Soccer team signs new players

The UTM soccer team has announced the signing of four players to next year’s squad.

Melanie Miller, Sarah Bedell, Andrea Enevoldsen and Jamie Price have all been added to the Skyhawk soccer team for competition beginning in the fall of 2004.

Miller is a 5-9 senior from Farragut High in Knoxville.

“Melanie is a tall, strong player,” said Nathan Pifer, UTM soccer coach. “She has good speed and great skills. I expect to see her contribute right away in the midfield or in the defensive area for the Skyhawks.”

Bedell is a 5-5 senior at Hillwood High School in Nashville.

“Sarah is a very quick, skilled player who will strengthen the Tennessee-Martin attack next season,” said Pifer.

Enevoldsen is a 5-2 senior at Dickson County High School in nearby Dickson.

“Andrea is a fast, tough defender. She has the ability to add a lot of strength to our defense in the 2004 season,” said Pifer.

Jamie Price, a 5-9 senior, from Germantown High School will also join the team this fall.

“Jamie is a tall, strong physical central defender who will strengthen the Skyhawk defense next year,” said Pifer. “I expect to see her win the air wars with her heading abilities and contribute to shutting down our opponents.”

The Skyhawks finished this past season with a 9-7-3 overall record and a 4-2-2 record in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Skyhawks advanced to the OVC tournament where they suffered a 2-0 loss to perennial soccer power Southeast Missouri State.

The Skyhawks will not lose any players to graduation from this past season’s team.
