Soccer picks up senior day win against Lipscomb Lady Bisons

The UTM honored its seniors in more ways than one in Friday’s senior game.

The game began with a brief ceremony honoring seniors Rachel Callahan, Joanna Gomez, Christina Moore and Ginger Schmitt.

The game ended with a 4-1 victory over Lipscomb University for the Skyhawks’ final match of the 2004 season.

The Skyhawks finished the game with a season-high 33 shots on goal. UTM dominated the shooting game as the Lipscomb Lady Bisons only shot five.

Skyhawk freshman Jamie Price connected with the first goal of the game with only 15 minutes left in the first half. She received an assist from Jennifer Ermey and Annie Cook.

Lipscomb responded quickly, scoring its only goal of the game just one minute later. Melissa Chambers scored and was unassisted in the play.

Skyhawk sophomore Kindal Keim found the goal two more times to give the Skyhawks a two-point lead with 30 minutes left in the game.

Jamie Ohlheiser provided the first assist and Dani Myrick found Keim for the second assist.

The final goal of the game was provided by one of the Skyhawks’ seniors.

Gomez connected on a penalty kick with 20 minutes remaining. As Gomez normally plays the defensive position, this was her first career goal.

Goalkeeper Megan Dempsey finished the game with three saves out of Lipscomb’s five shots.

The Skyhawks end the season with an overall record of 4-11-2 and an Ohio Valley Conference record of 1-7-0.

UTM did not earn a berth in the OVC tourney, which started Tuesday afternoon.
