Skyhawks sweep Bellmont again

For the second consecutive year, Tennessee-Martin blanked Belmont University 3-0 in volleyball action.

The Skyhawks claimed game one 30-15, game two 30-22 and game three 30-17 last night at Skyhawk Fieldhouse.

The Skyhawks improve to 19-5 overall with the victory, while Belmont falls to 6-23.

The Skyhawks claimed game one 30-15. UT Martin volleyball coach Chris Rushing opted to start sophomore Leigh Reiniche and freshman Rebecca Palmer.

The Skyhawks hit .290 in the game. Senior Rachel Ahlers led the effort with her .714 hitting percentage. Lindsey Stock turned in a .500 hitting percentage.

In game two, the Skyhawks posted a 30-22 victory. The Skyhawks turned in a .297 hitting percentage in the game.

Rushing continued to play his entire team. Belmont never challenged in game three and Rushing and the Skyhawks posted a 30-17 win.

Ahlers’ .700 hitting percentage is the highest this year for a Skyhawk player.

The hitting percentage also is the eighth best in a match for a Tennessee-Martin player. Amy Ohrt holds the highest hitting percentage in a match with .833 against Belmont in 1997. The top-five match hitting percentages are all against Belmont.

“Tonight it was good to get everyone in the match,” Rushing said.

Maribeth Hanneman continues to impress Rushing as a setter.

“It is good to get her in the matches now and prepare her for next year.”

The Skyhawks are 10-0 against Belmont since 1992.

The Skyhawks return to action Thursday, Nov. 7 at the University of Evansville.
