Skyhawks drop two conference games


The University of Tennessee at Martin suffered a 64-56 loss to host Austin Peay Monday night in Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball action.

For the Skyhawks, the loss was their second consecutive OVC setback. The Skyhawks are 4-4 in the league race and 11-8 overall. Austin Peay improves to 4-2 in the OVC and 11-6 overall.

Junior college transfers Earl Bullock and J.C. Howe led the Skyhawks with 21 and 15 points respectively.

The Skyhawks led 31-29 at the half, but were outscored 35-25 in the second half as Austin Peay banked on three players in double digits. Adrian Henning led the Peay effort with 16 points, while Anthony Davis added 15 points. Josh Lewis chipped in a dozen points.

The Skyhawks shooting woes continued against Austin Peay. They hit 39 percent from the field. They were five-of-23 from three-point range.

The Skyhawks must regroup before Saturday’s road trip to OVC rival Murray State Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Regional Special Events Center.

Shooting woes hurt the University of Tennessee at Martin Skyhawks as they dropped an 83-60 decision to Morehead State University Saturday night in Skyhawk Arena.

The Skyhawks shot 38 percent from the field in the first half and came away empty on 14 three-point attempts. The Skyhawks picked up the pace in the second half, but finished the game shooting just 38 percent from the field. They were 25-66 from the field and just three-for-24 from three-point range. The Skyhawks fall to 4-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 11-7 overall, while Morehead State racks up its eighth consecutive OVC win against no losses. The Eagles are 13-5 overall.

Ricky Minard led the Eagles with 22 points. He was eight-of-16 from the field and five-of six from the free throw line. Chez Marks netted 19 points, including four treys.

Tennessee-Martin was led by J.C. Howe with 22 points. Joey Walker netted 13 points and senior Okechi Egbe added 10 points. Egbe has scored double-digits in his last six OVC games. With the 10 points, Egbe is 34 points shy of becoming the ninth player in Tennessee-Martin history to score 1,000 points.
