Skyhawks currently in first


The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team is in first place in its own invitational and the Ohio Valley Conference championship as the match nears the second day of completion.

The Skyhawks mixed team has turned in a combined air rifle score of 1,504. The four person team includes Byron Godbee (376), Devra Harvey (377), Amanda Karns (370) and Courtney Rea (381).

Ironically, UT Martin’s Jessie Wilson, who is not competing on the mixed team, is in second place with a 385 in the air rifle competition.

Rea’s 381 puts him in fifth place, while Jennie Fladebo, also not competing on the mixed team, is in sixth place with a 380 in the air rifle.

The University of Memphis is second with 1,504 points and Austin Peay is in third place with 1,451 points. Murray State was still shooting.

The 12-team invitational and OVC championship will continue through Sunday at the Skyhawk Rifle Range in the ROTC Building on campus. The match is open to the public and admission is free.

Other teams competing include Ole Miss, Missouri-Kansas City, Saint Louis Alabama Birmingham, Mercer and Centenary. Competing for the OVC championship is Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee-Martin, Austin Peay and Morehead State.
