Skyhawk sophomore earns first team All-OVC basketball honors

Skyhawk sophomore Andreika Jackson was named to the 2004-05 All-Ohio Valley Conference first team.

Jackson is the first Skyhawk player to earn first team All-OVC honors since Amy Watson was selected to the league’s first team at the end of the 2002-03.

Jackson is a postseason honoree for the second straight year, building on last year’s OVC All-Freshman team award with her first team selection this season.

The Decauter, Ga., native ranks sixth and ninth in the conference, respectively, with 14.1 points and 6.1 rebounds a game while shooting 55 percent from the field.

Jackson helped the Skyhawks to an 8-8 won-loss record in the OVC and a No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.

Jackson scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds against Murray State this season.

Southeast Missouri junior center Tatiana Conceicao was chosen as the 2004-05 Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball Player of the Year in voting by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Eastern Kentucky’s Larry Joe Inman was named the OVC Coach of the Year, while EKU guard Ashley Cazee was picked as the OVC Freshman of the Year.

Joining Conceicao as a unanimous selection on the 2004-05 All-OVC first team was Tennessee Tech junior forward Emily Christian.

Also selected to the All-OVC first team were Jacksonville State senior forward Shanika Freeman, Eastern Kentucky senior forward Miranda Eckerle, Murray State senior guard Rebecca Remington and UTM’s Jackson.

Making up the All-OVC second team are Eastern Illinois senior center Pam O’Connor; Tennessee Tech sophomore guard Kendall Cavin; Tennessee State senior forward/center Kendra Bailey; Austin Peay junior guard/forward Ashley Haynes; and Eastern Kentucky senior forward Candis Cook and junior foward Pam Garrett.
