Skyhawk soccer team prepares for Arkansas State


UTM is coming off a 4-0 loss to Southwest Missouri State over the Labor Day Weekend to host Arkansas State at Skyhawk Field Sunday afternoon.

As of Sept. 5, the Lady Indians were 2-0 on the season with wins coming against McNeese State and Alabama A&M. Arkansas State beat McNeese State 3-1 and defeated Alabama A&M 3-1.

This is the second meeting between the two teams with UTM holding the 1-0 series lead.

The first meeting was during the 2001 season in Jonesboro, Ark. with the Skyhawks coming away with a 1-0 victory.

The Lady Indians are led by junior forward Jamey Spear. Spear has two goals and one assist on the season. Leading Arkansas St. in the goal is junior Adrienne Mann. Mann has faced 10 shots on the season and picked up three saves.

She has allowed one goal in each game. As a team, the Lady Indians have out-shot their opponents, 35-10.

Rachel Callahan and Amy King currently lead the Skyhawks with one goal each, both coming in the Louisville match.

Sherrie Weeks and Ginger Parson both have one assist for UTM with Weeks leading the team with six shots.

Senior Caryn Scheufler has spent the majority of the time in the goal with freshman Megan Dempsey logging in 20 minutes in the Southwest Missouri match. Scheufler leads the team with eight saves on the season.
