Sigma Sigma Chi spends weekend at workshop in Vanderbilt

Sigma Sigma Chi, the colony of Sigma Chi on Martin’s campus, had the privilege of attending a Tri-Province Workshop hosted by Vanderbilt University’s Sigma Chis. After arriving Friday night, they mixed and mingled with some of the brothers across Tennessee and Kentucky.

During the night the men of Sigma Sigma Chi were able to meet Lee Beauchamp (Texas A&M ’75), the International President of Sigma Chi and Carrie Davis, a UC San Diego Pi Beta Phi who serves as the International Sweetheart.

Saturday was a day of education and fun. Sigma Sigma Chi attended sessions on scholarship, risk management, Derby Days and many other topics.

Derby Days is an International Event for Sigma Chi. It is a week long philanthropic event where teams compete in activities to earn participation points. At the end of the week the sorority with the most points is named the Derby Days Champion. Two years ago the Eta Gamma Sigma Chi Chapter (UT Chattanooga) raised $72,000 for Children’s Miracle Network. The chair from that event, Will Webb who can be heard on 102.5FM as Will the Thrill, is the recruitment advisor for Sigma Sigma Chi.

Ryan Mouser, a junior Biology major, said “This has been the best weekend of my life – I’ve met so many of my future brothers, learned a lot about Sigma Chi and learned what it stands for.”

The Sigma Chi Fraternity was founded on the ideals of friendship, justice and learning at Oxford, Ohio’s Miami University in 1855. Its mission is to be a value-based organization that stresses the character development of each member. Sigma Sigma Chi became a colony of Sigma Chi in November of 2003.
