Senior night truck giveaway

The 2002-03 UTM basketball regular season comes to a screeching halt Saturday afternoon in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center when the Skyhawks host Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State University in women's and men's action.

Tipoff for the women's game is set for 4 p.m., while the men are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The regular season finale for both teams will feature plenty of basketball action along with the Terry Petty Truck Giveaway, co-sponsored by UT Martin's Office of Housing. Two fans will have the opportunity to win a truck if they can make a shot from 70-feet away.

The Tennessee-Martin cheerleaders will also perform the routine they are planning to do at the NCAA Cheerleader Championship April 3-4 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The national competition will be televised on CBS Sports.

The annual Alpha Omicron Pi Mother's Club Barbecue will be served courtside. Tickets are $6 and proceeds from the barbecue will go to the Tennessee-Martin men's and women's basketball teams and the Arthritis Research Foundation. United Way supporters in attendance Saturday will have a chance to win a MTD lawnmower.

Volunteer Community Hospital will serve as game sponsors, while Allegro Marinade will sponsor the Skyhawk Club Hospitality room.

Before each game, Skyhawk seniors will be recognized. The Skyhawk women's team will recognize Randi Morgan, LaShanta Morrow and Amy Watson, while the men's team will honor seniors Okechi Egbe, Jon Roos, Brooks Smith and Joey Walker.

Both Skyhawk teams have qualified for the upcoming OVC tournament. The women have a chance to finish fourth in the league race and host a first-round game Tuesday, March 4 if they beat Murray State and Austin Peay beats Morehead State.

The Skyhawk men will travel to their first round game, but the opponent and site hinge on the outcome of the Murray State game. The Skyhawks could finish sixth in the league and play their first round game against Eastern Illinois or Tennessee Tech
