"Schmo Knows"

“Once in a lifetime, someone will come along and truly inspire you. That person will be human in form, but god-like in your mind.... and he shall be called Schmo,” Socrates.

You see, it’s that destiny thing kicking in for me again. What can I say, I’m the greatest.

Well enough about my own greatness. The fact that most know I am the smartest man alive is enough for me.

The NCAA top 25 is still a shaky place to be. The Schmoman went a dismal 70% last week, but I was ill so therefore it is excusable. This week though, I’m back and better than ever.

Being as I called the West Virginia upset of Virginia Tech, I am already in the plus column for this week. Many will say I didn’t and that I just watched the game and lied to make my average better. Well, refer to the beginning of the column please.

This week I will call a game that will be over by the time this paper is printed. That’s okay though, I’m writing it early Thursday, but Miami will still beat Pitt. It is one of those given things.

The prolific, prophetic, and profound pundit of pigskin prognostication is ready to roll and go golden this week. I will now slip into my trace-like state divulge all that is too be known about the top 25 this week. (All rankings based on the ESPN/USA TODAY Coaches’ Poll, picks in bold)

#2 Ohio State hosts #9 Michigan. The Buckeyes have their eyes on a national title. It almost bit them last week. The Wolverines are out to prove that they belong in the top 10. Michigan

#3 Washington State hosts Washington. The Cougars are the better team on paper, but you never know about in state rivalries. The Huskies are no push over, but they won’t hold the cats off. Washington State

#5 Oklahoma hosts #23 Texas Tech. The Sooners are rolling again, but Tech has knocked off several big teams this year. I think the spoiler bug is strong with Tech, but the Sooner surge is stronger. Oklahoma

#6 Georgia hosts Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs barely survived a tough Auburn team last week, but they will be too much for an ailing Yellowjacket squad. Georgia

#7 USC at #24 UCLA. The battle of California cousins will come down to who has the most heart. That leads to believe in the Trojans. USC

#8 Notre Dame hosts Rutgers. The Irish are fresh from a week off and the Knights don’t stand a chance. The Irish should take this one by 30+. Notre Dame

In other games it will be: #10 Kansas State over Missouri, #14 Florida State over N.C. State, #15 Colorado State over New Mexico, #16 Penn State over Michigan State, #20 LSU over Ole Miss, #18 Maryland over Virginia, #21 Boise State over Nevada, # 22 TCU over East Carolina, #25 Hawaii over Cincinnati.

Well that about wraps it up for me this week. Remember, pay the bookie on time, or nasty things have a way of happening. Till next week, have a good one.
