"Schmo Knows"

“In the beginning God created Schmo, and directed him to forecast college top 25 football games for the masses...” The Book of Schmo, chapter 1, verse 1.

Well, that’s how my book would start off if I was to actually write one.

The prolific, profound, and prophetic pundit of pigskin prognostication took a hit last week. Missing six of 18 games for a dismal 66%. It was not my finest hour.

The good news is, I’m back. I know many are breathing a sigh of relief and a few are crying “why God is this moron allowed to have his own column.” Well, refer to the beginning of my article.

The top 25 is a dangerous place this season. Only three major teams have not fallen victim to the upset bug so far this season. I don’t think any of them are in line for it this weekend either.

With that in mind, the Great One will slip into his trance-like state and predict the games for this weekend. (All rankings are based on the Top 25 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, picks in bold.)

#1 Miami at Tennessee. The Volunteer faithful claim to “bleed orange.” Miami intends to prove it. The Vols need to buy stock in Vaseline because this is going to turn into a.... well I’m not allowed to print it, but you get the idea. The only chance for Tennessee is if Jesus comes back and takes a few snaps. Miami

#2 Oklahoma at Texas A&M. Though Lt. Col. Ashworth may disagree, I smell a Sooner slaughter. Oklahoma

#3 Ohio State at Purdue. The Buckeyes are not happy with their ranking. I think the less than proficient Boilermaker team will feel the brunt of their anger. Ohio State

10 Notre Dame at Navy. After falling to BC last week, the Fighting Irish are out for blood. Though Navy is usually an alright team, this year they off big time. The Irish will make an example of them on their home field. Notre Dame

#15 Oregon at #5 Washington State. The Ducks have proven me wrong twice this year. Coupled with the fact that they are at Wash. State’s house, I think Duck season may have just opened. Washington State

#22 Iowa State at # 12 Kansas State. The Cyclones are trying to salvage hopes for a bowl game, K-State is vying for a spot in the top ten. Though the boys from Iowa are tough, K-State has the homefield advantage. Kansas State

#14 LSU at Kentucky. The Tigers have been inconsistent this season, but the Wildcats don’t have a prayer. The cats from the bayou will roll. LSU

#13 N.C. State at #25 Maryland. The Terrapins have a chance to prove they belong. N.C. State is looking to avenge last weeks loss. It is tough to tell, but I have to go with the underdogs. Maryland

In other games it will be: #7 Virginia Tech over Syracuse, #23 Pittsburgh over Temple, #6 Iowa over Northwestern, #4 Texas over Baylor, Georgia Tech over #18 Florida State, #19 Penn State over Virginia, #24 Arizona State over California, #21 Colorado over Missouri, #17 Florida over Vanderbilt, #16 Bowling Green over Northern Illinois, #8 Georgia over Mississippi, #9 USC over Stanford, #11 Michigan over Minnesota.

Well, there’s the calls. Go to Vegas and place your bets early.
