“Schmo Knows”

The prolific and profound prophet of pigskin prognostication was above the 80 percent mark again last week, going 14 of 17 for the BCS top 25 teams.

The matchups this week focus on many teams still vying for the national championship and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame facing their toughest challenge in the year they have deemed as a “Return to Glory.”

With that in mind, the Schmoman slips into his trace-like state for this week’s prognostications.

#6 Notre Dame vs. #13 Florida State. The Irish travel to take on Bobby Bowden’s Seminoles. Tyrone Willingham is sure of his Irish, but the ’noles are anxious to prove they belong in the top ten. The fact that Notre Dame has the best defense in the land and FSU will never kick a winning field goal leads me to believe in the luck of the Irish. Notre Dame

#17 Penn State vs. #4 Ohio State. Penn State travels to the home of the Buckeyes to take on Ohio State. The Lions are hungry this season and despite a few setbacks, look to have Buckeye stew. Penn State

#14 Iowa vs. #8 Michigan. Iowa hits the road to Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines of Michigan. The Hawkeyes are proving to many they are a dominant team, but the Wolverines are a little bit more fleet of foot. Michigan

#18 Iowa State vs. #7 Texas. The Longhorns are trying to prove that their game versus Oklahoma was an off day. The Cyclones are trying to gain respect in their home state. The only factor in this game will be if Simms shows up. Texas

#16 USC vs. #12 Oregon. While I have to believe USC is the better team, the Ducks are tough to ground at home. The Trojan masses may hear this one for years to come. Oregon Alabama vs #15 Tennessee. The Crimson Tide have a classic rivalry with the Volunteers spanning back almost as long as college football has been played. The Tide is still rolling as an upset maker and Tennessee will have a tough time holding back the surge. The five game winning streak will come to an end in Knoxville. Alabama

#10 LSU vs. Auburn. Though I missed the Auburn game last week, taking an over-rated Gator group to overtime is not the way to get back into the top 25. The Tigers from the bayou will destroy the tigers from Alabama. LSU

Temple vs. #3 Virginia Tech. The Hookies will never be ranked number one by playing cupcake teams. If anyone thinks that Temple has a chance, they need professional help. Virginia Tech

N.C. State vs. Clemson. The State bunch is the best thing to come out of North Carolina since, well.... ever. The Clemson crew is tough, but state wants to prove that they, not the Tarheels, are the dominate team in the state. N.C. State

#5 Georgia vs. Kentucky. If the Bulldog bunch had a little trouble with an over-rated Volunteer team two weeks ago, they are suspect. But I think the Wildcats don’t stand a snowballs chance. The Bulldogs from the peach state should do fine. Georgia

In other games throughout the top 25 it will be, Colorado over Texas Tech, Air Force over Wyoming, Kansas State over Baylor, Washington State over Arizona, and Arizona State over Washington.

Well that’s all the Schmoman is willing to tell this week. I do have to make some money for myself. And for those who doubt my ability, if I had bet one dollar on ever game I predicted last week in a Vegas Casino, I would have cleared over $200. Just a lesson to all those who doubt that I am the smartest man alive. Comments, Criticisms, and complaints, please email me at pacer_sports @UTM.edu.
