"Schmo Knows"

A column by Sports Editor Joe Dacus

Well, it’s the last paper of the year and my last opportunity to brag about what a great writer I am and Blah Blah Blah.

Guess I am just not up to it today.. Gotcha. Ha, proof that even I influence the minds revolving around sports in a small degree at least.

It should tell you how sad the NBA world has become when the lead story before a playoff game is Kobe Bryant’s long distance commute between his court appearances and the playoff game he is in.

Come on people, can’t we interview somebody about how great basketball is or the history of the playoffs. Guess not. Instead we have to settle for Marv Albert of all people telling us why I should feel sorry for a man charged with rape. Sorry Marv, I don’t really care.

Moving on to football. Eli Manning went number one in the draft, but didn’t want to play for the San Diego Chargers. Boo-Hoo. He whined about wanting to be number one, then threw a tantrum when he was selected by a crappy team.

Hate to tell him, but crappy teams always get the first picks unless they trade them out, that’s how it works. If you don’t want to play for a second rate program, don’t whine about going first in the draft.

The Titans looked to have regained some strength they lost in the lineup due to free agency. The days of the team and fan faithful players are long gone.

Replacing what used to be them, is money grubbing babies who worry that younger stars like Maurice Clarette threaten their million dollar plus salary.

On the lighter side of things, I do have to send out a great amount of thanks to Amy Eddings. She has been a huge help to me this year and I could not have done anything without her. Thanks Amy. To everyone else, have a great summer and see ya next year.
