SAC welcomes back students with fun

The Students Activities Council (SAC) welcomed back students to UTM with a week filled with fun and excitement.

The first day of classes, Monday, a carnival and a live concert was brought to campus that lasted until midnight.

“I like riding the [Moby] Dick,” said India Simerson, a senior History major from Memphis.

Many students came out for the Monday night festivities and the first day of school was eased with the fun.

“It is a good way to get UTM students involved on campus,” said Veronica Moore, a senior Fashion Merchandising major from Memphis. “It shows the campus what SAC can do for students in the area of entertainment.”

Ingram Hill played a 70-minute set and promoted their newly released second album that night.

“This was a great night,” said Victoria Kirchner, a sophomore Human Resource Management major from Memphis. “They need to bring more popular bands like this that would attract more potential students instead of them looking elsewhere.”

The rest of the week entertained students with SAC’s version of “Let’s Make a Deal,” the Foam Dance, a comedian, Cafe House Open Mic Night and a caricature artist.

Prizes for “Let’s Make a Deal” ranged from gift certificates from local business to pigs’ feet (no pigs were harmed).

Alexis Johnson, a junior Criminal Justice major from Memphis won a karaoke machine. On winning her karaoke machine, she replied, “It feels great! Now I can sing all night long.”

Having events to lessen the stress of the first week of classes was enjoyable by all those who attended.

“It was a good week,” said Tehronne Crump, a freshman Health and Human Performance major from Memphis. “It was a positive thing to get us out and together to know everyone else on campus. I’ve met a lot of new people here on campus already.”
