Roberts and Sarandon clash in Stepmom

***** of 5

Sometimes your worst enemy can become your best friend and savior as shown in the movie Stepmom.

Julia Roberts plays Isabel Kelly, a woman who enters the life of Luke Harrison (Ed Harris) and stirs up his relationship with his children and former wife Jackie Harrison (Susan Sarandon).

His children Anna (Jena Malone) and Ben (Liam Aiken) are still hoping that their mother will reunite with their father and life will be perfect.

Isabel is in Luke’s life and the children hate her. Jackie also influences the children’s attitudes towards Isabel by always speaking ill of her.

Things begin to change when Luke proposes to Isabel and later on in the movie, Jackie reveals to her family that she is dying of cancer.

Jackie and Isabel form somewhat of a friendship and rely on one another to see that the children will end up with a happy and loving future in the family.

The two actresses do an outstanding job in this movie. If you love movies with Julia Roberts or Susan Sarandon in it, you will love the movie Stepmom.

There is a good balance of comedy and sad moments in the movie.

The chemistry between Roberts and Sarandon is excellent. They have a hate-love relationship throughout the movie which is completely understandable.

Roberts is taking over her life and her children. How else would a woman react to it? She’s afraid of losing her children or even the possibility of them forgetting about them when she is gone.

If you’re in the mood for a tear jerker, go out and rent Stepmom.
