Remnant, a Christian band, rocks Baptist Student Center

The Baptist Student Center blasted with many sounds Tuesday night as Remnant, a new Christian contemporary band, held their first concert of the year.

Remnant had their audience on their feet clapping, singing and praising all through the night.

The band consists of four very talented young men, all UTM students. Kylan Mann, lead vocals and electric guitar, is a senior marketing major from Dover.

B.J. Purser, a junior communications major from Dayton, assists with vocals and plays lead acoustic guitar.

Nathan Washburn, a junior communications major from Martin, plays the drums. Last, but not least, is Stephen Burgin, the band's bass guitar, a graphic design major from Martin.

Remnant has been together for almost a year. Mann says the main goal of the band is to “spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through music ministry.”

The band has taken some major steps in the past few months. They recently recorded their first CD, set to be released in late September.

“God’s blessed us so much. With each door He has opened, that's one more door we never expected to be opened,” says Mann.

The band gets their name from the book of Romans 11:5-6 NIV.

“So, too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And, if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.”

Be on the lookout for posters posted around campus of when Remnant will be playing their next show. All students are invited to attend all shows.
