Religion influences athletes

For everyone that doesn't know about FCA, it stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, but here at UTM it stands for Fellowship of Christian Anybody's.

For more than 46 years, FCA has been focused on one purpose, to "Present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church".

FCA was founded to be an athletic ministry, its primary constituency being the athletes and coaches from the junior high program all the way up to the professional levels.

FCA is an influencing ministry, using athletes and coaches as its role models and spokespersons to reach the world influenced by athletes.

FCA strives to present the complete Gospel in which athletes and coaches are encouraged to count its cost and make thoughtful decisions for Christ in the fellowship of a "Huddle Group" locally and at conferences and camps.

FCA presents the acceptance of Christ as a continuing journey in which athletes and coaches grow in knowledge of and service to Christ.

FCA aids athletes and coaches in maintaining or restoring relationships and directing athletes and coaches toward the family and the church.

FCA's goal is to have a presence on every school campus in America. Currently there are over 7,700 Huddles, which are school groups or groups with an estimated 500, 000 students involved.

UTM's FCA meets every Wednesday night in room 231 in the University Center. Any and everyone is invited to come and join in on the fun and commotion.

FCA is led by students and is for the students.

Head Baseball Coach Victor Cates is the faculty sponsor for FCA, and is an encouragement to the leaders of the group.

John Ferebee one of the leaders and a Senior Nursing major says, "I would like to see positive spiritual growth in the students who attend FCA and the future attendees."

Ferebee is looking forward to a positive outcome in the number of students attending the weekly meetings.

Another one of the leaders, Scott Wallace says, " I would also like to see a definite spiritual growth in the students and life long friendships established amongst those in the group."
