PRSSA to host Flock-The-Teacher

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) will begin its fundraising next week with a flock-the-teacher vote.

Members of PRSSA will attend all Communications classes and conduct a vote to see which Communications professor will get his or her yard "flocked" by wooden pink flamingos. Students may purchase as many votes as they wish, with votes costing $1 each. The proceeds from the "flocking" will go toward PRSSA's annual trip to the society's national conference, which this year is Oct. 24-28 in New Orleans.

PRSSA has more activities coming up soon. They will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts Sept. 8-12. The donuts are glazed and will be sold by the dozen. To order a box of Krispy Kreme donuts, e-mail Erika Jacobsen, Fundraising chair, at erikadenise1@yahoo.com.

PRSSA will also be having a bake sale in the Humanities building within the next week.

PRSSA recently had its "Get Acquainted" cookout and election. The event was hosted by faculty adviser Dr. Jeffrey Hoyer and was attended by the chair of the Communications Department, Dr. Robert Nanney.

The first order of business was the election of officers for this semester. The newly elected officers are: Judith Hill (president), Jamie Prince (vice-president), Sabrina Mosley (secretary/treasurer), Katie Wine (firm director), Natalie Simmons (chapter webmaster), Nicole Iddings (public relations/communications chair), Nicole Bennington (special events chair), Erika Jacobsen (fund-raising chair), and Jennifer Hornbelt (historian).

PRSSA is a student organization that helps prepare Communications students for careers in public relations. PRSSA's primary goal is to help students gain real world experience by assisting the university and local community with its promotional and communications needs.

PRSSA's next meeting is 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in 309 Gooch. For information about PRSSA, contact Judith Hill at judithdhill@charter.net or call (731) 587-6755.
