Piano recital to educate children’s growing minds


Dr. Elaine Harriss, Associate Professor of Music, will present a piano recital for children at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 5 in the Fulton Theater of the Fine Arts Building.

The program will include Mozart’s Variations on Twinkle, Beethoven’s Fur Elise, Bach’s Minuet in G, Chopin's Waltz Op. 34 No. 1 and Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag.

This program unites Harriss’s extensive piano and early childhood backgrounds.

She has taught piano for over 30 years and has performed extensively, particularly as an accompanist and duo-pianist. In addition, she has taught all levels in public school and has over 16 years experience with pre-school children through Kindermusik.

She was named a Master Teacher of Kindermusik and has also been honored as Tennesse Music Teacher of the Year.

Commentary will be geared toward children and their parents.

The concert will be interactive with the program lasting about 35-40 minutes.

Dr. Harriss recommends that children attending be at least three years of age. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

There is no admission charge and all ages are cordially invited to attend.
