Pacer helps local Girl Scout troop


The Pacer staff lent a hand to a local Girl Scout troop Monday, Nov. 4 to help troop members receive their newest badge.
The junior Girl Scout troop 373 in Dresden got some “real world” help from The Pacer staff to earn the “Write All About It” badge. The troop is composed of girls from grades fourth through sixth.

In order to complete their badge, the Scouts wrote a news story together, then talked with members of The Pacer staff. Matt Crouch, executive editor, and Heather Nicholson, advertising manager, told troop members about various aspects of the newspaper business, such as writing stories, gathering information, advertising, and other

The girls prepared many inquisitive questions to ask their guests to enable them to better understand the duties of journalists and other newspaper-related jobs.

Some questions were related to the typical day in the life of a journalist, salaries for the related fields, and other job information.

Girl Scouts is one of the world’s premiere organizations dedicated solely to girls. Today there are 3.7 million girls in the organization. The Girl Scouts’ focus is fun, friendship and power of girls together. This is accomplished through field trips, sports, skill building, community service projects, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardships.

The Girl Scouts’ have more than 300 local Girl Scout councils. The opportunity for Girl Scout membership exist in almost every corner of the U.S. and in 81 countries through Girl Scouts Overseas.

This organization is “90 years old and still growing”.
